“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches,
for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people,
the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.”
Isaiah 43:20 ESV

As fresh water flows into a parched land, refreshing and replenishing it with life, God is flooding the spiritually dry city of Las Vegas with Living Water. The River was birthed out of a desire to join God in this great work of redemption in "Sin City."

We are "a fellowship of simple faith communities", a plurality of grass-roots churches that meet in a variety of locations and times, but which form one united congregation that gathers monthly for corporate worship and celebration.

We currently gather weekly as two simple faith communities for worship, teaching, mutual encouragement, prayer, and the sharing of the Lord's Supper.

As our communities faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Jesus and make disciples, we will establish new and unique simple faith communities throughout Las Vegas with the goal of taking the Good News of Jesus beyond sacred places and times and into the places where people live, work, and play.

Why Are We Called The River?

Some may ask why a church located in the desert would call itself The River. To that we can only say that being in the desert is the perfect reason to be called The River!

Numerous times in Scripture the imagery of a river in the desert is used as a metaphor for a fresh work of God's grace (Psalm 107:35; Isaiah 41:17-18, 43:18-21). We believe that if any place is in need of a fresh work of God's grace, it's Las Vegas!

We also believe that God has called us to so live out the new life given to us in Christ that we become a refreshing current, a River, of God's love and grace to this spiritually parched city.

The name The River also helps to illustrate the structure of our fellowship. A river is not a single stream of water, but is made up of many streams coming together into one. In the same way, The River will be a unified fellowship that is made up of multiple simple faith communities. While each "stream" is unique in its contribution to the whole, all of the streams ultimately flow together to cooperate in God's gracious work to the city of Las Vegas.
